Exotic Poker

I have always had a desire to develop a mobile poker game where players can play against NPC algorithms of my own making, and now that I feel like it might actually be possible, I’m going to get serious about developing it. Prior to that, I have created a homepage, so I will provide a link here (I plan to base it on English, but I will also make it possible to access Japanese pages via the link).

I felt that I needed to decide on an easy-to-understand name for the application before starting development, so I decided on the title “Exotic Poker.” I did a Google search beforehand to see if the name was already in use, and although it had been used a little in bulletin board titles, it didn’t seem like a word that was commonly used, so I decided to use it as a temporary name for the time being.

Incidentally, the term “Exotic” is taken from the financial term “Exotic Derivatives,” which is a general term for derivative transactions with complex contractual provisions that differ from standard derivative transactions. In poker, types of poker that differ from the standard rules, such as Texas Hold’em and Omaha, are called Variation Poker or Custom Rule Poker, and Exotic Poker does not seem to be a common term. It seems that there are many people in the financial industry who play poker, so perhaps that’s why people in the financial industry sometimes call it that.

It cannot be used if it overlaps with a company name or trademark, but since the homepage address “exotic-poker.com” was obtained without any problems, it is probably okay. At worst, it would be fine to make it a proper noun by adding some alphabet, like “Exotic Poker ___“, so there would be no need to make major changes to the name.

Future Plans

For now, I am developing an app for Android, and once that is complete, I plan to develop an app for iPhone. Since this is a personal development, I don’t think there’s any need to release them all at the same time, so I plan to release them in the order they are completed. Since there isn’t much code to write, I think I’ll be able to release both in about six months.Due to the time and effort required for development, updates to the blog may be slow, but I am not quitting the blog, so I hope you will continue to read it. I also intend to continue writing about the poker algorithms I came up with during development.
