I Made a Song based on Texas Hold’em

Music

Why is that so…

I couldn’t sleep well that night, and while I was spacing out, all of a sudden the lyrics to Texas Hold’em popped into my head. It was a style that was inspired by the image of an all-in addict, someone who repeatedly goes all-in from the pre-flop onwards (repeatedly chanting “all-in”). Since I couldn’t fall asleep anyway, I just jot down whatever came to mind, and within an hour I had created something that sounded like lyrics (lyrics are short when written as sentences…well, the lyrics felt like they just fell from the sky so I was able to write them down in no time). However, the length of the sentences in the finished lyrics was inconsistent, and I felt that the Japanese was uncool, so I asked ChatGPT to translate it into English and make it into lyrics. And then the following lyrics came out (although they are slightly different from what I had written, he kindly wrote, “These are the English translations of your lyrics.” This probably means that the copyright belongs to me.). It ended up sounding like lyrics in a nice way…By the way, rockets seems to refer to AA.

[Verse 1]
Got a hand that’s finally strong,
Lady Luck’s smile is where I belong — pocket queens in my grasp.
An hour passed with nothing good,
But patience now pays off, just like it should.

[Verse 2]
The woman next to me throws in a raise,
Says, “Come on then!” in her daring gaze.
But I pause — the Big Blind grins,
Something about his look sends shivers within.

[Pre-Chorus]
Visions of rockets or kings in my mind,
But I won’t fold, I won’t rewind.
Like a rocker screaming loud and true,
I raise my voice, I push on through.

[Chorus]
All-in, All-in — who dares to call me now?
No need to hold back, let’s break the vow.
All-in, All-in — I bet it all tonight,
To be myself, to win this fight. Come on, let fate decide.

[Verse 3]
What a letdown — they all fold and flee,
Didn’t think I’d win so easily.
The gambler girl scoffs, “Are you insane?
Going all-in like that — what’s your game?”

[Verse 4]
Feeling slightly shamed and shy,
Two more cards as the dealer slides by.
The kind of hand that spells defeat —
AK offsuit, bitter-sweet.

[Pre-Chorus]
Sure, I could raise, pretend to shine,
But it’s just high cards — no real spine.
So I bet again, with preacher’s grace,
Speaking like God’s voice in this place.

[Chorus]
All-in, All-in — now she’s pissed off bad,
But I played by the rules — nothing to add.
All-in, All-in — there’s only winning here,
No room for doubt, no space for fear. C’mon God, make it clear.

[Bridge]
The Small Blind smirks and calls my bluff,
Flips over rockets — that’s tough.
My high cards crash with silent pain,
No turning back, no chips remain.

I rebuy in and get dealt anew —
The cursed old 7-2 offsuit.
Why does this always happen to me?
I’m starting to hate the man I see.

[Pre-Chorus]
A devil whispers in my ear,
“This hand’s strong, there’s nothing to fear.”
I can’t stop now, I’ve gone too far —
I chant the spell to summon the dark.

[Chorus]
All-in, All-in — is this how I lose it all?
Is this the fate to which I fall?
All-in, All-in — I’ll fight, I’ll roll the dice,
Let the demon speak the price.

[Final Chorus]
All-in, All-in — who dares to face me here?
No mercy, no regrets, no fear.
All-in, All-in — this is my final play,
To be myself — come what may.

How to Add a Melody…

Naturally, I am not good at composing music, and no melody came to mind, so I thought the only option would be to use AI to generate the song. I knew that there was a well-known music AI service called Suno AI, so I thought I would use this service to create a song. Maybe because I was in a daze, I acted impulsively and just made an account and paid for a suitable plan. It seems that if you want to upload to other video sites (such as YouTube), it’s better to pay in advance.

Suno AI generates songs by describing the lyrics and the characteristics of the song as a 120-character prompt. It seems that it is also possible to have ChatGPT generate the prompt itself, which represents the characteristics of the song that match the lyrics. First, I asked ChatGPT to recommend a musical style and instrument that would fit the lyrics, and they recommended hard rock and Bon Jovi. The next most popular genres were progressive rock (exemplified by Muse) and dark pop rock (exemplified by Radiohead). The idea was to add an acoustic guitar to the standard band instruments (electric guitar, bass, drums). It would be cool to progress the verse with an acoustic guitar, accelerate the pre-chorus, and explode with all the instruments in the chorus.

I filled out the prompts in Suno AI with the musical style and instruments, then pressed Create and a song was generated. Although I didn’t give any specific instructions, the song that Suno AI generated had the verse spoken on acoustic guitar, the pre-chorus accelerating, and the chorus opening up all the instruments. The end result was… well, it wasn’t bad, and I was impressed that they sang the “all in” chant over a melody like that, but I felt like the dark, serious vocals didn’t quite match up with the silliness of the lyrics…

After creating it, I realized that the dark feel of hard rock (minor chords) might not have matched the image of the lyrics. I felt that it would be better to have a fast-paced feel from the beginning of the verse, rather than a sung-up feel. So I removed keywords like Hard rock and acoustic guitar, and instead added keywords like Pop Punk, Upbeat, and Distorted guitar, and pressed the Create button again.

The Finished Song

The song generated in this way is as follows:

I feel like it’s a classic pop punk song (sounds like SUM41?). To be honest, I thought it would end up being a slightly lame song (with the repeated ‘all in’ chant and all), so I was surprised by how well it turned out. I somehow liked the rhythm of the verse and the way the lyrics were written. I realized that AI services have evolved tremendously. If lyrics suddenly come to you from the sky, you might want to consider using this service. At the same time, I can’t help but think that if anyone can create quality songs so easily, it must be really hard on musicians around the world…
